JAMIE FRANKS BREAKS HIS OWN CAMPAIGN PROMISE BY ATTACKING
PHIL
"We will not go negative," Hull
said. "We're
going to keep a positive campaign."
-Jamie Franks' Spokesman, James Hull,
quoted in the September 23, 2007 Clarion-Ledger newspaper. |
Jamie Franks may like to run away from his own voting record, but
now might be a good time for him to double-check it. As unbelievable
as it might sound, Jamie Franks is so desperate, he's now trying to
blame Phil Bryant for the Beef Plant debacle-the same Beef Plant that
Jamie Franks voted to give millions of taxpayers money to.
The reality is, Jamie Franks voted to fund the Beef Plant on three
separate occasions. It's a wonder Jamie Franks would even want to utter
the words "Beef Plant" in this campaign considering he voted
to fund it three times. Jamie Franks voted over and over to fund the
Beef Plant-Phil Bryant did not. Here's the record:
- Senate Bill 2002 in the 2000 2nd legislative special session-(Advantage
Jobs Act) created the Land, Water and Timber Resources Board and
provided them with their first funding which included $5 million
to the Beef Plant as a grant. Jamie Franks voted for this bill.
- Senate Bill 2858 in the 2002 legislative session-Amended the Emerging
Crops Fund to allow for $21 million in loans or loan guarantees that
was used for the Beef Plant. Jamie Franks voted for this bill.
- House Bill 1493 in the 2003 legislative session-Amended the Emerging
Crops Fund to increase the $21 million to $35 million used for the
Beef Plant. Jamie Franks voted for this bill.
- "...Phil Bryant didn't vote to fund it."-Sun Herald,
June 17, 2007.
- State Auditor Phil Bryant's office was the first state government
agency or law enforcement entity to actually uncover wrongdoing in
the Beef Plant fiasco.
- State Auditor Phil Bryant created a state & federal task force
to investigate the Beef Plant.
- With the assistance of the FBI and U.S. Attorney's office, State
Auditor Phil Bryant worked to successfully arrest the owner of the
Beef Plant as well as the contractor.
- While some officials have claimed the Beef Plant investigation
is over, Phil Bryant has continued to state that the investigation
continues and is ongoing.
Now you know the facts...
